How often should you drink water during 60 - 90 mins aerobic workout?

My instructor trains us for aerobic 'burn-outs' and says we need to be able to go as long as possible without drinking water. We have very intense workouts, but really enjoyable. Lots of party & soca music. Sometimes I go for a swim at the beach after as the salt water helps my muscles. So with the salt and the hot Caribbean sun, I'm thinking those water breaks are important, but I don't want to compromise my burn-out endurance.

Why does your instructor promote dehydration? The better hydrated you are, the better you will perform. You should sip as needed according to the rate at which you sweat. You're not a camel- your instructor is mistaken about the aerobic "burn-out" thing- it's not going to do you any good. In fact, it could be dangerous if you were to become severely dehydrated.

I think it is important that you listen to your own body - you are obviously concerned that you are suffering from dehydration otherwise you would not have asked the question.

Forget about compromising your burn-out endurance and respect yourself - perhaps your instructor is right for some people but it can be very dangerous to dehydrate your body regularly. There are plenty of safe ways to improve your endurance.

I think you show rehydate at least once during you workout, say 1/2lt of water. Too little water and you just wont be able to exercise as long.

On the other hand dont just drink when you feel thirsty, in very long exercise periods ie marathons you can make yourself ill and even kill yourself from over hydration (at least 5 people a year need hospital treatment from over hydration during the London Marathon). What usually happens though is that they start to feal ill so drink more thinking they havent drunk enough.
